About the Support Group

A monthly support group has been established with the following mission:

  1. To hold space for those who have experienced re-triggering of trauma from experiences within the theatre community
  2. To allow time and people’s experience be a source of support for each other
  3. To advocate for improving the health and safety of the Chicago Theatre Community
  4. To provide additional information and resources for deeper healing and preventative measures

We know many people are feeling triggered by recent The Chicago Reader article regarding abuse at Profiles Theatre.

Therefore, Not In Our House will hold an informal support group gathering this Wednesday, June 15th at 7 PM.
There will also be a formal support group meeting with volunteer counselor, Melissa Sanchez, on Wednesday, June 22nd at 7 PM.

Both sessions are at the Voice of the City Studio, 3429 W Diversey Ave, 2nd Floor.
Blue Line to Logan Square, next to Dunkin Donuts!

This location is a multi-arts space and feels apart from the standard theatre venues.
Please email dawnmarie@voiceofthecity.org if you plan to attend.

We also strongly encourage those who feel the need for individual counseling and endorse the providers found on the support group resources page. Each counselor and center has been highly recommended by the professional community. An initial, individual intake will be important for those suffering from the effects of trauma, and Dr. Fredie Friedman (see resource page) advises that individual counsel is extremely important with a support group being a supplemental resource.
